Oliver Twist discovers early in life that it is a terrible thing to be born an orphan. His miserable experiences at the workhouse force him to run away to London. There he meets the Artful Dodger and falls into the clutches of the crafty Fagin, who forces him into a world of crime. An exciting series of events leads him to discover his long-lost family and he finds happiness at last.
